June 13-14 2015

My dear parishioners and visitors;

We are now in the 11th Sunday in Ordinary time. The season of Ordinary time is the days between Christmas and Lent and the days between Easter and Advent. During this period we are personally with Jesus on his public ministry of proclaiming the good news of salvation.

Jesus, through this Sunday’s gospel, teaches us that it is the unseen power of God that makes the Church to grow and the Church, His Kingdom on earth, like a mustard seed, starting off very small, mysteriously and miraculously grows and has an impressive effect on the whole world (CCC 851-854).

St. Mark told the early Christians these two parables to encourage them neither to be worried nor discouraged by a slow growth of the Church, nor to expect instant results, but always patiently “working & walking by faith, not by sight” (2Cor. 5:6) and confidently trusting in God’s power to make his Church to grow and blossom.

We live in the age of the instant products: instant tea, soup… and want fast and quick results. However life, nature and everything take time to grow and to develop.

The lesson is clear for us that God’s unseen almighty power is always working with and for us. Each of us, His Sower, just joyfully sow the seed of the Gospel in St. Ann’s, our parish-family, and in Quesnel, our loving community, then patiently and confidently trusting in his power to bring our small and insignificance act of evangelization to a beautiful harvest of souls. I am grateful for your prayers and loving words on June 1st, my anniversary, and on June 12th, my birthday.

Have a blessed week. Fr. Peter Hoan Nguyen.
